New Year, New Plan

Before you get lost in the year’s events (it’ll be Easter before we know it!), it’s important to take time to review and plan where your business is heading in 2017. Are there things you could be doing better in your business development activities that will ultimately help you achieve those goals?

If you’re struggling to realise your business growth plans or need help making them in the first place, coaching could be the way forward.

Here are three reasons why.

1. A fresh approach – As with anything, it is easy to get set in our ways or stuck in a rut when it comes to our business development activity; unable to break into a new way of thinking. Having a coach to bounce ideas off or suggest alternative methods can quickly spring new ideas and provide a newfound motivation.

2. It provides impetus – The feedback I often get from clients is, when they know I am coming into see them this alone helps to kick-starts them into action! When you are paying for the services of a coach or a consultant, getting the most out of that activity soon becomes important! Any coaching undertaken should really be done on a long-term basis, even if the frequency reduces after an initial burst of sessions. This also provides much needed consistency when approaching business development activities.

3. Identify quick wins – One of the ways in which I help clients with coaching is to look at their existing pipeline, also running through recent opportunities with them and questioning why they were won, or not as the case may be. It is amazing how quick people write off opportunities when actually, with a little work, they could be rekindled into business. The same goes for utilising existing contacts – there can often be ‘quick wins’ to be had – soon justifying any investment into coaching.
