When was the last time you reviewed your marketing strategy?

When did you last review your marketing strategy? Here are some tips to help you revise, devise and implement a marketing strategy for your business.

Revise
Many business owners will have written a marketing strategy when they first set up their company and some will even have revisited this periodically. However, it goes without saying that things change as time goes on and the marketing strategy you wrote all that time ago is likely to be well out of date and potentially completely irrelevant! It is a really interesting and worthwhile exercise to dig out your original marketing plan and review it in the light of your current business and its position. There may be some elements to take out and keep, but in all likelihood, you’ll need to get back to basics and…

Devise
With a blank piece of paper in front of you, it’s time to go back to the start and consider who your customers are, who are the customers you want and how are you targeting them.

Look at everything you have in place currently – from your website to your social media presence, business development activity to traditional marketing collateral. Ask yourself if everything is consistent and whether there are obvious areas for improvement.

Don’t forget to include a section in your strategy in marketing to existing clients. This can so often be overlooked and yet is potentially the best source of ‘quick wins’.

There is a lot to say here…we’ll elaborate further in a future blog!

Implement
Probably the most effective way to ensure you stay on track with your newly devised marketing strategy is to set SMART objectives and clear timeframes. Be sure to diarise any deadlines you set yourself along with suitable reminders to jog your memory.

Don’t try to do everything all at once as this will simply result in you achieving nothing!
